The Student-Parent Connection: Choosing a College!
The Student-Parent Connection is a monthly feature here on College Money Insider. During the school year, we have a student and parent share their thoughts and experiences as they save up for college and prepare to go through the college application process. Today’s post is by Jessica Avery!
If you have any tips to help students save up for college, feel free to leave a comment below!
It’s official! I’m enrolled in an actual college. I put in my initial deposit to College of Charleston in South Carolina. After visiting the college in February, I completely fell in love with the campus. Everything about it was what I wanted in a school. They described it as “a medium-sized school with a small school feel”. The small classes are perfect for my learning style. There are all different kinds of schools out there, but it’s all about finding the right one that’s perfect for you. It took me awhile to find the school I love, but now that I have found it, I couldn’t be happier.
Now comes the process of selecting a roommate and getting the housing application started. This task is a bit nerve-wracking for me. It feels like there is a lot of pressure to pick the perfect roommate for me. I don’t want to be living with someone I don’t get along with for a year. That’s why I decided that finding a compatible roommate was more important to me than getting my first choice for a dorm selection. I figure you can make the most out of any place you are living, but living with someone you don’t get along with would be awful. I have been approached twice now from girls interested in rooming with me next year. I added them on Facebook and have been messaging, just to get to know them better. I can’t believe that I am making these kinds of decisions! Moving to college in August is right around the corner! It is all so real, but that make it that much more exciting!
